What is an apprenticeship?
Earn, learn and qualify at the same time - an apprenticeship is a mix of on the job training alongside study. As an ACCA accounting apprentice, you’ll earn a wage and gain work experience whilst pursuing a recognised professional award.
Who are apprenticeships for?
Apprenticeships are open to anyone above the age of 16. There is no upper age limit and they can be valuable at different stages in your career:
Apprenticeships offer an exciting alternative to university that’ll let you kick-start your career ahead of your peers without the usual student debts. But, if you later decide to get a degree, apprenticeships allow you to do that as well. You’ll start earning while you learn and gain practical work experience to add to your CV that will make you stand out when applying for future jobs.
An apprenticeship provides an accredited route into accountancy and finance that doesn’t require you to work for a specialist accountancy practice.
An apprenticeship also provides a pathway into finance if you studied a non-related degree at university.
An apprenticeship offers a way to build your skillset, and enhance your value and future employability.
If you're looking for a change, an apprenticeship is a great way to gain new skills and move into a new career in finance and accounting.
How much does it cost?
The best part is that it’s all funded by the government and employers so for apprentices, it costs nothing. You can gain an award that feeds into one of the best paid and most highly respected professions without breaking the bank.
How long does it take?
The ACCA Accounting Technician (Level 4) apprenticeship takes a minimum of 12 months to complete.
The ACCA Professional Accountant (Level 7) apprenticeship is anticipated to take 36 months to complete.
What's involved?
During your apprenticeship, you’ll:
- work in a job receiving the same benefits as your colleagues
- work and learn alongside experienced finance professionals, building your network at the same time
- gain practical experience that both counts towards achieving the ACCA Qualification and will make your CV stand out against your peers with little or no experience
- build your accounting and finance skills as well as important soft skills like leadership and communication that employers are looking for. These can be applied to a range of roles across sectors at home and abroad
- receive off-the-job training and learning support accounting for approximately 20% of your apprenticeship
- take exams and complete a final assessment when you and your employer are ready
