Expected skills and behaviours

Aside from an interest in accounting and financial management, employers are likely to be looking for the following in an apprentice:

• Good numeracy skills: accountancy isn’t purely about numbers but it's a big part of the job.
• Good interpersonal and team skills: you’re likely to be part of a team so taking instruction, performing assigned tasks and contributing to a group are important.
• Attention to detail: accuracy and a willingness to check your work.
• Integrity and honesty: this is all about using financial expertise to influence significant decisions, many of them about money, so you have to be trustworthy.
