Jamie Gale ACCA
Name? Jamie Gale
Company? Quilter
Job title? Accountant
Favourite food?
Chicken Curry! Specifically, a Mauritian curry (give it a try if you haven't)
Who or what inspires you?
Seeing communities work together to either survive hardship, or to ensure better conditions for those in need.
What was your study route?
I studied Accountancy and Finance at Solent University, this gave me exemptions from the F level papers, from there I worked at the University, they provided excellent study support for taking the P level papers.
What do you do in your spare time (if you have any!)?
I'm a big fan of the cinema, I play video games and support my local ice hockey team the Solent Devils.
Perfect job?
I love film so I think being paid to review them would be great (though I'm better with numbers than with words), but I'd be just as happy to be in a financial role for a media company making film or TV
Career aspiration?
To balance it with my home life, I want to live to work, not work to live.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
Famous! This was before YouTube made that slightly more realistic, but I'm much happier to stay out of the spotlight now I've grown up.
Favourite holiday destination or holiday type?
I love a city break, I can't take more than a day or two on a beach, so I have to be taking in the local culture and finding out the differences, as well as learning what things we all share.
Biggest support throughout your studies and career?
Solent University gave me the financial support to take the process at my own speed, and I can't thank them enough for that.
Emotionally I would say my partner gave me the personal motivation to keep going in the times I didn't feel like it, so thanks Sheena!
Advice for students going through the exams?
Break everything down to the component pieces, there's always a rush to understand the text as a whole but understanding the foundation so well you can explain it to someone outside of Financial roles is the best way to learn, not just recite knowledge.
