Developing the profession
2002 Industry Night at Orchard Library
We had a long partnership with JobStreet for a series of career talks back in the 2000s at the National Libraries to introduce accountancy to the public. Here’s a very precious photo of the one we did at the former Orchard Library at Ngee Ann City that was very well attended by people interested to find out more about a career in accountancy.
2003 ACCA Student meeting
One of the ways where ACCA Singapore had supported our students to achieve examination success was through the ACCA Students’ Meetings. These sessions gave ACCA and CAT students opportunities to hear first-hand from the ACCA Examiners and ACCA Qualification team on developments on the syllabi and to clarify their questions and doubts.
2004 Career Talk at Temasek Polytechnic
ACCA Singapore is a regular contributor at career talks in the tertiary institutions. Here’s a photo of the then Education Manager Mitchell Tee sharing about the opportunities offered by the ACCA Qualification to a group of students from Temasek Polytechnic back in 2004.
2005 MRA Signing with ICPAS
The then President of ICPAS, the late Mr Tan Boen Eng, shaking hands with ACCA’s Chief Executive Mr Allen Blewitt on the signing of the MRA. ACCA was already operating a Joint-Examination Scheme (1983 to 2013) with ICPAS at that time, the only one of its kind in Singapore to help in growing the talent pool of professionally trained accountants through the ACCA Qualification.
2006 SMU Amazing Race
ACCA Singapore was supportive of the local universities and often sponsored prizes or collaborated with their student societies for fun activities. Here’s an event with SMU students in 2006 where the student had to complete an Amazing Race with the ACCA Office at Wisma Atria as a checkpoint.
2007 Singapore Poly Accounting Race
ACCA Singapore was supportive of the local polytechnics, and we still sponsor the ACCA awards to recognise outstanding polytechnic students. Apart from career talks, we also supported their outreach activities to secondary schools at events such as open houses. Here, was the Accounting Race at Singapore Polytechnic (back then, the Amazing Race was a big thing!)
Approved Employers Recognition in 2008
ACCA has an Approved Employer programme to engage with potential employers of our members. Over the years, we have grown the pool of Approved Employers to over 200 in Singapore. Here’s an event in 2008 of employers receiving their certificates at the Grand Copthorne hotel. Present were the Country Head of ACCA Singapore, Ms Penelope Phoon (far left) and Ms Helen Brand from ACCA (who would eventually become ACCA’s Chief Executive today).
