The Accounting T Level

T-Levels

  • Are equivalent to 3 A Levels.
  • Are a vocational 2-year qualification for those in year 12-13 and launched in England in September 2022 meaning the first cohort will have finished this year in 2024.
  • Designed to provide young people with a blend of classroom learning and on the job experience through a minimum of 45 days (9 weeks) on an industry placement.
  • Have been designed by employers and providers to ensure that the content meets the needs of the industry and prepares the students aged 16-19 for entry into skilled employment, apprenticeship or technical study.

What does the T-Level in Accounting cover?

Core conent (Year 1)

  • Fundamentals of financial accounting
  • Professionalism and ethics
  • Data-driven innovation and analytics and design thinking

 Occupational Specialism (Year 2)

  • Produce and analyse a trial balance
  • Prepare primary financial statements
  • Analyse business performance and present results
  • Provide support to tax and audit functions
  • Prepare computations for payroll

What are industry placements?

As part of the T-level, students will get hands on work experience in an industry for at least 45 days. This industry place is in a real working environment with an employer where students will make meaningful contributions to the organisation and start to build up their professional network.

During the placement, students will get the opportunity to experience different areas of the business including: payroll, audit, bookkeeping, IT Systems and Accounting Software and much more.

T level grading and certification?

This nationally recognised certificate will include: Overall Grade, Core component grade, Occupational Specialism and Confirmation of completed industry placement.

Where are T Levels available?

There are currently over 30 FE colleges and sixth form centres around the country offered a T-Level in accounting.

The onward journey

Students can decide to continue with their ACCA journey and become a chartered certified accountant, with the work experience gained during the T Level used towards ACCA Practical Experience Requirements, a key component of becoming an ACCA member.  This is as long as the work experience is supervised and can be verified at a later stage.
