RODDY ANING - COMMUNITY CHILDCARE SERVICE

Roddy Aning

“If you are looking to be always in employment, then ACCA is the way for you. Though it is a tough qualification which requires a lot of hard work, there are so many rewards, which you’ll continue to enjoy for your whole career.”

I enjoy working with numbers which is why I chose a career in accountancy. Being self-employed is definitely an attractive attribute of this career, and I don’t want to work for an employer all my life, so accountancy is my perfect choice.

Apart from the fact that it is a worldwide recognised qualification, ACCA, unlike other bodies, provides a 2 in 1 package, which consists of the ACCA Qualification and a BSc in Applied Accounting at Oxford Brookes University.  You can determine how long it takes you to qualify, and the degree which comes with it is almost free of charge!!

“I chose a career in accountancy because I have good numeracy skills and enjoy working with numbers”

Furthermore, accountancy is a respected profession that is transferable globally and it has good benefits, both financial and otherwise.

I chose ACCA after speaking to some of my friends that have qualified in accountancy. Upon doing so, I realised that ACCA was not only more internationally recognised but it also gave you more comprehensive training in different areas.

I’m proud to be a part of ACCA. It’s prestigious, internationally competitive and comprehensive in the training it offers. It’s the best in my opinion.

‘I began my career working in practice as a college leaver, where I undertook the AAT qualification in order to gain a solid understanding of accounting. I decided to continue my studies with ACCA as I believe it gives a good grounding to further your career.’

I was also attracted to the partnership between ACCA and Oxford Brookes University. This will allow me to work towards a degree to complement the experience I have already gained without incurring the large debt typically associated with university.

I would like to progress to a senior management position. I will achieve this by continuing to expand my knowledge of accountancy and the commercial aspects of business while developing the soft skills that will allow me to manage a team.

‘Qualifying to be an accountant is purely about hard work and commitment. Put in the hours and stay focused and I guarantee you can become an accountant! I did! Accountancy is one of the few professions that you honestly don’t need to go for university for.’

Had I decided to go to university, I would be leaving now with no work experience, a lot of debt and be about to start my ACCA studies. In reality, I have five years work experience and am fully qualified.

I chose accountancy because of the variety of job prospects that it offers. It’s such a wide profession and there are so many different routes that you can take. The ACCA qualification has enabled me to work in both the public sector (Metropolitan Police) and the private Sector (KPMG).  Accountants are CEOs, consultants and even teachers.

ACCA offers candidates a choice of papers to take at the professional exams level. It’s great that you can tailor your professional papers to suit you (and avoid your worst subject!).
