Why choose the university route?
University is often considered the traditional route to becoming a qualified accountant, and it is certainly still a great one. You can become an ACCA accountant by choosing the university route and there are many benefits to doing so including:
- The opportunity to live away from home and make new social connections with like-minded people
- Uni is a great time to continue to explore career options and develop new skills
- Gain in depth technical knowledge about the subject you’re studying (just don’t forget to find opportunities to practice applying it!)
- You can gain a reputable degree with access to various graduate training programmes
If you decide to down the university route there you could choose to study accounting, finance or a non-related degree.
Some accounting and finance courses are ACCA accredited and may mean employers are happy to provide you with ACCA exam exemptions when you join them, and either begin or continue to study for your ACCA qualification.
You don't have to study accounting and finance to study ACCA and become qualified, in fact accounting is so varied in terms of the roles available (and therefore skills required) many employers are looking for individuals from a variety of backgrounds who can each bring something unique to their organisation.
