The foreign-sourced income exemption (FSIE) regime in Hong Kong that applies to foreign-sourced interest, dividends, equity disposal gains and income from use of intellectual properties became effective on 1 January 2023. The scope of the FSIE regime was further expanded to cover foreign-sourced disposal gains of all types of assets on 1 January 2024. Since the implementation of the FSIE regime, the Inland Revenue Department has been updating its guidance on the regime to provide further clarification on its application. In this webinar, the speakers will talk about the latest developments of the regime and share real-life examples on its application.

This webinar will cover the following:

  • The IRD’s latest guidance and real-life examples of practical application; and
  • Interaction between the FSIE regime and other tax rules in Hong Kong

Anita Tsang, FCCA, Partner, Tax Policy and Knowledge Management, KPMG China

Anita Tsang is a tax partner at KPMG leading the Tax Policy and Knowledge Management team in Hong Kong. Anita has over 20 years of experience in Hong Kong and international taxation. Before joining KPMG, Anita worked at the Tax Services team of PricewaterhouseCoopers Hong Kong. Anita is currently a member of the Board of Review in Hong Kong.

Anita has been actively engaged in studying and providing recommendations on various Hong Kong and international tax matters in her capacity as a tax technical partner and a member of the Tax Committees of various professional bodies. Her other roles include providing in-house tax technical support and training at KPMG as well as producing the firm’s tax publications. She is a regular speaker of tax conferences and seminars.

Anita is the Honorary Secretary, Council Member and Co-chairman of the Tax Policy Committee of the Taxation Institute of Hong Kong. She is also a Chartered Tax Adviser, a member of the Tax Sub-committee of ACCA Hong Kong, and a member of the HKICPA.

Alan Lau, Senior Manager, Tax Policy and Knowledge Management, KPMG China

Alan Lau is a senior manager in Tax Policy and Knowledge Management Team at KPMG. Before joining KPMG, Alan worked in the Financial Services Tax Team at PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Alan has been actively involved in studying various Hong Kong and international tax developments and providing advice on various Hong Kong and international tax issues. He is also involved in providing in-house tax technical support and training internally and producing tax publications at KPMG. In addition, during his time at PricewaterhouseCoopers, Alan mainly provided tax compliance and consulting services to various clients within the financial services and was actively involved in various Hong Kong and international tax consultancy projects.

Alan holds a bachelor degree in Professional Accountancy and is also a fellow member of HKICPA.
