The theme of our half-day sustainability conference is Powering sustainable business. Join us as we delve into the following key topics that will shape the future of our profession:

  • Prospects for the global green transition
  • Accounting for carbon-related instruments
  • Implementing sustainability reporting
  • Key requirements of ISSA 5000
  • Making AI work for sustainability.

Prospects for the global green transition
Amid the cost-of-living crisis and rise of populist parties, recent years have seen retreating by developed countries on some of their policies intended to achieve the green transition. With the new Trump administration in the US, which has already withdrawn from the Paris Agreement, the risk could be for some further retreating over coming years. In this session, we will discuss the state of the global green transition, including developments in major countries, as well as some of the major risks.

Accounting for carbon-related instruments
As more organisations proactively manage their climate-related risks, this session will discuss the use of carbon-related instruments to reduce carbon emissions, the implications on organisations that use these instruments, and how these instruments are reported in the financial statements. We’ll also discuss necessary interventions to improve the transparency and integrity of reporting about carbon-related instruments to help stakeholders understand the nature, function and financial effects of using these instruments.

Implementing sustainability reporting
Regulations regarding financial, environmental, and social sustainability information are expanding to include all organisations, from large public interest to smaller entities. Moreover, stakeholders such as investors and customers are increasingly requesting this information, often offering more favourable terms when it is provided. This session will explore the journey of two organisations that have successfully implemented and are continuously improving their creation and use of interconnected sustainability and financial information. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to assess your organisation's requirements for this information, benchmark your progress, and take vital steps toward becoming a successful, sustainable organisation.

Key requirements of ISSA 5000
The latest development in sustainability reporting – the publication by the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB) of ISSA 5000 – aims to establish a global baseline for sustainability assurance engagements. In this session, we will look at the key requirements in ISSA 5000, General Requirements for Sustainability Assurance Engagements, and what the implications will be for preparers and assurers.

Making AI work for sustainability
This session will explore the dual relationship between artificial intelligence and sustainability. Panel experts will discuss how organisations can leverage AI to advance sustainability goals while addressing AI's own environmental footprint, ensuring deployment practices align with and support long-term objectives. The panellists will discuss questions around how AI can enhance sustainability reporting and disclosure; the environmental impact of AI systems and infrastructure; and strategies for aligning organisational AI adoption with sustainability goals
