In a joint communication with the Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP) – which is the body tasked with writing the advertising rules enforced by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) – HMRC has issued a warning against misleading advertising by some ads that promote the services of tax repayment agents.
This is good news for agents, especially those involved in R&D but also other areas where repayment agents work and are a pain for many of our members.
It is good to see action raising standards and members will be aware that ACCA obviously has advertising requirements in our Rulebook (section B13) so this is a positive step in countering sub-standard work by unqualified accountants.
