British Business Bank Scottish investment funds

There will be new roadshow events in Aberdeen, Dundee and Dumfries in early March. These events will be an opportunity for you to hear from the fund managers DSL Business Finance, The FSE Group and Maven Capital Partners, and to learn more about the types of funding available and how to apply. Find out more and sign up.

Scottish Budget

The Scottish Budget 2024/25, unveiled just before Christmas (read our summary), is due to be debated in Parliament in late February. Current signs are that the proposed tax rates announced in December will be confirmed – ACCA will keep you updated on the final position. Any thoughts on the Budget? Scottish Apprenticeship Week, 4-8 March

Do you have a role in recruitment or upskilling in your practice? The Graduate Apprenticeship is a funded, innovative and highly rated new training pathway in Scotland, combining the ACCA qualification with a degree. It works well for small and large employers. As part of Scottish Apprenticeship Week, come along to our information session, in partnership with Glasgow Caledonian University, on the morning of Wednesday 6 March.

Bankruptcy reform in Scotland moves forward

In February the Scottish Parliament approved the first stage of the Bankruptcy and Diligence (Scotland) Bill. While the proposed law tidies up a number of aspects of bankruptcy rules, including rules around wage arrestments, the main reforms relate to pausing debt recovery actions against those suffering with mental illness. While the general principles were approved, Parliament has raised a number of questions about how this would work in practice that the Scottish government will have to address at the next stage of parliamentary proceedings.
