The ACCA Global Forum for the Public Sector

The Global Forum for the Public Sector provides insight on finance and accounting issues across the public sector globally. Its agenda includes public financial management, budgeting, accounting, audit, governance and sustainability reporting.

Professional accountants in the public sector play a foundational role in supporting effective and efficient public services. Governments worldwide are managing unprecedented levels of debt at the same time as the public’s demands and expectations of services have increased. The need for efficiency, innovation and productivity improvements in public finance has reached a critical point.

Finance professionals are at the heart of public sector organisations and are in a unique position to initiate real change. Their skills and experience mean they can have a positive impact in streamlining processes, and on the way that public resources are allocated for the greatest impact. In short, professional accountants are the drivers of sustainable public value.

The Global Forum for the Public Sector supports this objective by steering and shaping ACCA’s thought leadership on emerging issues in the public sector, developed through extensive research, surveys and roundtable discussions. These are explored in depth at the annual Virtual Public Sector Conference – an event that attracts thousands of participants.

The forum also makes sure that the voice of ACCA members in the public sector, and the vital role that members play in public sector organisations worldwide, is heard, and helps ACCA to shape policy through its contributions to public consultations, especially those with a global reach.

The forum’s members represent senior figures from central and local government and other state institutions worldwide. They bring a broad range of experience and expertise of diverse issues that relate to the public sector, including the role of AI today and in the future.
