Members outside the UK

If you are outside of the UK and wish to use your local British Council office for attestation of your ACCA membership certificate, then you must also provide the British Council with your exam transcript. The exam transcript does not need to be attested but must be included in order to allow British Council to carry out the attestation.

  1. Submit your member certificate to your local British Council office for attestation. (this must be accompanied by the exam transcript).

  2. Once the documentation is received back from British Council it then needs to be sent to the FCO. Full details of the FCO process, application form, fees and expected turnaround times can be found at www.fco.gov.uk/legalisation, or contact:

    The Legalisation Office
    Foreign and Commonwealth Office
    Hanslope Park

    United Kingdom
    Email: legalisationenquiries@fco.gsi.gov.uk
    Telephone: +44 (0) 3700 00 22 44

  3. Once the documents are received back from the FCO they are then ready for the member to use as appropriate e.g. forwarding to a relevant country embassy/authority/attaché in the UK for their checks.

Members in the UK

If you are in the UK and you choose to have your membership certificate certified by a UK solicitor or Notary Public in the UK, you can send your membership certificate directly to the Legalisation Office at the FCO but you must still include your exam transcript.

If you wish to have your ACCA qualification certificates attested by British Council e.g. Diploma in Accounting and Business, Advanced Diploma in Accounting and Business, ACCA Professional Level, you should follow the same process as detailed in steps 1 – 3 for members outside the UK with one small change:

  • The exam transcript does not need to be submitted to British Council
