Global Forum for Technology

The Global Forum for Technology explores emerging technology and its impact on the way professional accountants work and interact, and on the skills they need. The Forum’s aim is to ensure that the ACCA and its members remain at the leading edge of thinking around technology, data and emerging tech.

Technology has transformed business and the accountancy profession in recent years and the pace of change is accelerating as more companies and organisations adopt AI solutions. The impact of developing technology is megatrend that impacts every region, sector, and industry, and affects large and small companies and accounting practices of all sizes.

For centuries, accountants have quickly adopted emerging technologies to help them complete tasks more accurately or rapidly. But the technological developments of today’s world are vastly more numerous and complex than anything seen before.

Cloud computing, big data, virtual reality, and generative AI are changing the way finance professionals work and interact and are pushing forward developments in cyber security and service delivery. Technology has given the opportunity for accountants to automate repetitive tasks and focus on higher-value work – greatly enhancing their role as business and finance advisers.

The Global Forum for Technology plays a vital role in helping the ACCA and its members understand global technology issues and developments, and in shaping the ACCA’s strategy as emerging technology continues to influence the way accountants work and the skills they need.

The forum members represent a wide range of expertise and experiences, from technology experts to practitioners in small and large practices.

Our discussions, surveys and roundtable events help to shape ACCA insights and research, providing insight into the impact of evolving technology and the views of finance professionals as they navigate the digital world. It is impossible for anyone to predict the future with any certainty, but the work of the Forum ensures that the ACCA remains a thought leader on technology and its impact on the profession and business.
